Virtual Open House - South & Southeast LA Community Plans
INTRO TO THE COMMUNITY PLANS

The Department of City Planning is in the process of updating several Community Plans throughout the City, including the South and Southeast Los Angeles Community Plans (last updated in March, 2000).
What is a Community Plan?
The City of Los Angeles General Plan Land Use Element is composed of 35 Community Plans, including the South and Southeast Los Angeles Community Plans. Each Community Plan contains policies reflecting a future vision for neighborhoods and designates land for the range of uses needed, including jobs, housing, transportation, open space and amenities.
Community Plans:
-
Tell developers and homeowners what type of development will be permitted, and at what densities and intensities;
-
Outline strategies for how to accommodate anticipated growth; and
-
Guide decision-making when there are projects proposed.
South and Southeast Los Angeles Community Plan Updates
The Los Angeles Department of City Planning has partnered with the community to update the South and Southeast Los Angeles Community Plans. The updated plans include goals, policies and programs, as well as a zoning implementation tool known as CPIO, to achieve the community's vision. These Community Plans will shape the future of your community for the next 20 years by:
-
Thoughtfully accommodating projected future growth;
-
Protecting neighborhood character;
-
Creating new economic opportunity; and
-
Enhancing the quality of life in this area.
